All those rumors might actually be right as Indiana Jones 5 might be getting a new ending if composer Johns Williams’ recent comments are anything to go by.
Williams recently appeared in Italy (via YouTube) to show off his score and stated something interesting, as Williams said, “So we have just about completed the film. We have maybe another ending to shoot and to record, maybe in a couple weeks.”
Williams doesn’t continue with additional details, but worth pointing out is that Williams confirms the movie isn’t finished just yet and says there is “another ending,” which suggests the ending isn’t set in stone.
That also sounds like they are fixing the ending.
Recall the rumors have offered that the Indiana Jones 5 test screenings are worse than thought.
What are the Indiana Jones 5 rumors about?
The rumors offer that every ending shows Phoebe Waller-Bridge replacing Harrison Ford at the request of Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and that Phoebe Waller-Bridge insults Harrison Ford throughout the entire movie.
The worst version of the ending is said to show a young Harrison Ford as Indy getting killed off in the past where Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Helena picks up the whip and puts on the fedora and replaces Harrison Ford and becomes the new Indiana Jones.
So since Phoebe Waller-Bridge replaces Indy in the past, that means she is the Indiana Jones going forward and has always been Indiana Jones.
Director James Mangold has shot down those time travel replacement rumors, but per what John Williams has to say above, they are still working on the ending to the film.
“One more time. No one is ‘taking over’ or replacing Indy or donning his hat nor is he being ‘erased’ thru some contrivance,” Mangold tweeted. “And he never was, not not in any cut or script — but trolls will troll — that’s how they get their clicks.”
Mangold continued, “And please don’t exhaust me pointing out how once in a while a troll is ‘right.’ Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now & then. All one has to do is look at set photos & interviews & you get enough info to make wild guesses about a movie plot,” he said. “The diff between trolling a-holes & everyone else is they are trying to make [money] off your feelings about other films & culture war politics. They push controversial guesses as coming from ‘sources’ to gin up clicks. Let it go. END.”
