There can be only one! Will it be Henry Cavill of the clan Cavill, or Dave Bautista?!
New set images and video from Highlander have surfaced online, offering a new look at Henry Cavill in action, along with the debut of Dave Bautista as the film’s villain, Kurgan.
The footage shows Cavill fully in character as Connor MacLeod, bloodied and battle-worn.
First Look at Bautista’s Kurgan
The images also reveal Bautista as Kurgan, the savage immortal originally played by the legendary Clancy Brown in the 1986 film.
Bautista appears imposing and brutal, with heavy makeup, facial scars, a beard, and a darker, more grounded look compared to the original’s punk-inspired design.
Kurgan is MacLeod’s primary adversary, an immortal who kills without remorse in his pursuit of The Prize.
Building the New Highlander
The set images follow months of casting announcements that have turned Highlander into one of Amazon MGM’s most ambitious projects.
Cavill stars as MacLeod alongside Russell Crowe as Ramirez, Karen Gillan as Heather, Marisa Abela, Jeremy Irons, Djimon Hounsou, Max Zhang, Drew McIntyre, and others.
Director Chad Stahelski has said the film draws inspiration from both the original movie and the Adrian Paul TV series, expanding the mythology with more immortals, The Watchers, and deeper world-building.
Release info
Filming was originally set to begin earlier, but production has been pushed to early 2026 following an ankle injury Cavill sustained during training. Despite the delay, the set footage confirms preparations are well underway.
Highlander has no release date as of yet.
