The first Hellraiser reactions are in as reviewers got an early chance to watch the flick featuring new Pinhead Jamie Clayton.
Per the norm with advanced reviews, they are all positive, so let’s just hope that continues when Hellraiser officially gets released on Hulu next week.
I’m looking forward to it and everything I’ve seen and heard sounds good so far.
Check out the first Rotten Tomatoes and Twitter reactions below.
Hellraiser gets released on Oct. 7 on Hulu directed by David Bruckner.
In Hellraiser, a young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.
Hellraiser Rotten Tomatoes reactions:
While a Rotten Tomatoes Score hasn’t been made available as of yet, four reviews are posted, all positive.
However, the blurb from Slash Film does sound on the more negative side.
“An improvement for the franchise, but is that really saying much at this point?” states the reviewer for Slash Film.
The Slash Film reviewer does go on to note it’s a good flick but he wishes it was better.
VitaThrills.com offers: “Fans, of course, want to know – how is Jamie Clayton‘s performance as Pinhead, the iconic Hell Priest of the Cenobites, once played by Doug Bradley? Jamie Clayton doesn’t just fill Doug Bradley’s gridded flesh; I honestly think she’s even better.”
APIT: “David Bruckner proves himself to be one of the best directors in horror while Jaime Clayton makes the iconic Pinhead role in a great performance. A great addition that will breath some life into the franchise.”
But Why Though?: “Hellraiser is utterly exquisite and exactly how you bring a franchise back.”
Hellraiser Twitter reactions:
HELLRAISER is a gnarly, gory, horny reinvention that feels closer to Barker’s prose than any movie before it. Hardcore and faithful, it expands the mythology without treading on it. It’s going to create a whole new generation of HELLRAISER fans. Fucking LOVE it. Streaming Oct 7. pic.twitter.com/Q2MxECgVr9

An emotionally mature #HELLRAISER that leaves behind the Brechtian energy of the originals might feel like a puzzling fit at first, but it clicks satisfyingly into place – the bargaining, bloodletting and BDSM of the mythos are all present, but faceted in a fresh way.

New #Hellraiser is a fantastic addition to the franchise, paying homage to the original while feeling completely unique. Odessa A'zion's Riley is an outstanding successor to Kirsty Cotton and Jamie Clayton brings the pleasure and pain you crave.

Easily the best since part II. pic.twitter.com/YYKCUoL3Yl
HELLRAISER rules. Super violent, beautiful gore, poetic, genuinely scary, and bathing deeply in Barkerian themes. @MsJamieClayton is elegant & terrifying, the script by @luke_piotrowski & @BDavisCollins soaks in lore & love & @bruckmachina absolutely crushes it. So excited. pic.twitter.com/lQU1V6MSz9
