Green Lantern TV Series Gets Director James Hawes

The Green Lantern TV series in development continues moving forward as James Hawes will be directing the first episodes.

It’s also confirmed Kyle Chandler is playing Green Lantern Hal Jordan and that casting for John Stewart is now in its final stages.

James Hawes will direct the first two episodes of Lanterns. The series is described as similar to True Detective and follows Hal Jordan, a legend amongst the space police force known as the Green Lanterns, as he reluctantly mentors a younger Green Lantern, John Stewart. The two intergalactic cops get drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

Hawes is a British director known for directing episodes of Slow Horses, Raised by Wolves, Snowpiercer, Black Mirror, The Alienist, The Mist, Penny Dreadful, and more. He also directed One Life starring Anthony Hopkins.

Regarding the casting of John Stewart, THR adds they’ve narrowed it down to Aaron Pierre and Stephan James and that screen tests were recently held on Thursday and Friday. Lanterns is expected to start filming in January.
