Ghostbusters Animated Series ‘Coming Soon’ To Netflix

The Ghostbusters animated series that has been in development for the past couple of years looks to finally see the light of day on Netflix.

On Thursday, the official Sony Pictures Animation Twitter account teased the series will be released soon.

“There’s something strange in the neighborhood…” tweeted the account. “Our supernatural comedy series, based on Ghostbusters, is coming soon to Netflix.”

Update: Elliott Kalan is writing and executive producing. The 3D animated series is said to be tonally in line with the recent Ghostbusters films.

First announced back in June of 2022

The details revealed at the time include it was announced that Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation are in development on an all-new animated series based on the beloved Ghostbusters IP, which will be debuted exclusively on Netflix.

Production is said to be in conjunction with Ghost Corps, Inc., Sony’s production company that oversees the Ghostbusters brand.

The announcement also said Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, the minds behind Ghostbusters: Afterlife and the future of Ghost Corps, are attached to the series as Executive Producers.

“The series is part of the expanding Ghostbusters universe, which began with Ivan Reitman’s Ghostbusters in 1984 and has since become a mega-pop culture phenomenon culminating in last year’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” stated Netflix as the time. “As a part of today’s Ghostbusters Day celebration, Reitman and Kenan are expected to reveal more about what audiences can expect from the future of the Ghostbusters franchise.”

Reitman directed Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Up In The Air, and Juno; Kenan served as the writer of Ghostbusters: Afterlife and director of the animated features A Boy Called Christmas and Monster House.

Kenan also directed and wrote the recent Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire movie, with Reitman onboard as producer and writer.
