Ghost Rider Director Doesn’t Like The MCU

Echoing at last a few fans’ sentiments, the co-director of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance isn’t a big fan of the MCU!

“The Marvel [Studios] movies, I just don’t understand at all. I have to be honest, they seem very long to me,” Brian Taylor told CB. “I’ve got to be careful the way I say this. I just don’t get them. I’m kind of bored with them and I just don’t find them particularly entertaining. I think they’re really well made in terms of craft. The action is really good. They’re technically really great. They have a lot of actors that I love. But I just don’t get it.”

Taylor did go on to say he is a big fan of comic books and such, as he developed the adaptation of the Happy! graphic novel for SyFy, and further notes he was a fan of the R-rated Fox Studios films, Deadpool and Logan.

“For one thing, I kind of like making rated R movies. They don’t make too many of those,” Taylor said. “Logan and Deadpool were fantastic. I think rated R comic book movies could really work, and they can be great. I don’t know why Suicide Squad was not rated R. That just seemed like an obvious movie that should be rated R.”

Regarding being bored about the Marvel Studios movies, the argument a lot of fans have made is that most of the movies feature the same villain, the same type of jokes and that there are really no ramifications in any of the movies–they’re “popcorn” films as Zack Snyder likes to describe them

That said, obviously the MCU is a huge success – and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance wasn’t – so until the Marvel movies start failing at the box office, the arguments against the tone of the MCU don’t really hold much weight.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance debuted back in 2011 from Sony  Pictures and brought in only $132.56 million worldwide, with its Rotten Tomatoes score at 17%.

Ghost Rider has since returned to Marvel, and the character successfully appeared last season on Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD
