Doctor Who: No Full Season 7 in 2012

Doctor Who: No Full Season 7 in 2012

picWhat’s up with the best show on TV today – Doctor Who?

Earlier, we got a report that current Doctor Who, Matt Smith, had signed on to do another season of Who.

Well, that would be #7, but now it looks to be only a partial season (hopefully!), according to io9.

What the —- is going on?

Apparently, someone connected to BBC One, Danny Cohen, was speaking at an event, and said that Doctor Who would not be coming back for a full season in 2012 – but there would be a “special anniversary” run in 2013.

Seriously?

Are there ratings issues or budget problems?

How about we get Doctor Who over here in the good ol’ US, get some merchandising and promotion – and get it on a channel here. If the show isn’t making money or garnering high ratings, how about NOT delaying it?

I’m about to go on a rant I might regret, I’ll have to look into this more.

Not good news at all. Maybe it will turn out differently.

I should also note nothing official has been released by the BBC.

Update: BBC journalist Lizo Mzimba has been tweeting about his. Looks like 14 episodes have been ordered, but they might get split between 2012 and 2013 with specials thrown in somewhere, as well.

The BBC has, of course, commissioned 14 new episodes of Dr Who (hurrah) so looks like some will go in 2012 and remainder in 2013.

Bit of confusion, to summarise: no FULL 13 episode series of Dr Who in 2012. So some episodes will still go out in 2012. Remainder in 2013.

No further details about what more’s happening in 2013 yet. But it’s the 50th anniversary, so of course there will be some great stuff!

Update #2: Steven Moffat tweeted the following:

Dr Who: misquotes and misunderstandings. But I’m not being bounced into announcing the cool stuff before we’re ready. Hush, and patience.”

Hey guys, get off the 140 character count of Twitter and give us something “official!”
