Doctor Who Loses Millie Gibson

Doctor Who Loses Millie Gibson

Proving that earlier speculation right, it’s now reported that Millie Gibson has exited Doctor Who and won’t be a part of next season.

The info comes from the UK’s Mirror who says the new companion will be played by Varada Sethu who is known for Andor and Jurassic World Dominion.

The news looks to be legit as Ncuti Gatwa posted the following image on Instagram Story stating “My lil” and the Gemini astrological sign for twins and and a heart emoji. The trades are also reporting on the story.

What happened?

According to The Mirror, the decision was made to write out Millie Gibson by showrunner Russell T Davies at the end of filming on the first season.

It’s said Millie Gibson, age 19, won’t appear in the 2024 Doctor Who Christmas Special and will only make a few appearances in Ncuti Gatwa’s second series as the Doctor in 2025. It’s said she filmed eight episodes that will air starting in May.

Varada Sethu, age 32, will then take over as the new companion after that.

A BBC insider filled in the site, “Varada is a real gem, Russell was just blown away by her talent. The cast and crew have really warmed to her and he’s sure the fans will too.”

It’s also said Millie Gibson is expected to appear in just three of the eight episodes, and that one of the episodes will be a standalone story wrapping up her character, Ruby Sunday’s journey with the Doctor.
