Disney+ A ‘Disaster’ Says X-Men ’97’s Beau DeMayo

Things are getting real heated between Beau DeMayo and Disney/Marvel.

Late on Thursday night and into Friday morning, Beau DeMayo and Marvel have been squaring off on social media and through the trades.

Following Beau DeMayo tweeting he had been “stripped” from the Season 2 credits of X-Men ’97, Marvel fired back through the trades with a statement.

Marvel’s statement

The statement (via THR) says Marvel gave insight into his firing, saying it occurred after an internal investigation revealed “egregious” findings.

“Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation,” said a Marvel spokesperson in the statement. “Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately, and he has no further affiliation with Marvel.”

THR’s “sources” also add:

Sources say that following his exit, an agreement was reached between the two parties over the issue of tweeting about the show, something that DeMayo had continued to occasionally do. In light of the breeches, his credit for season two was removed. While no details of the cause of the termination or the internal reviews have surfaced, sources say it involved sexual misconduct.

Beau DeMayo responds to Marvel’s statement

Following Marvel releasing a statement through the trades, Beau DeMayo took to X again and actually said Disney+ is a disaster.

“The truth will be revealed. After their Disney Plus disaster, Marvel wants to mislead with alleged contract breaches over tweets. It’s tragic it’s come to this but unsurprising. Stay tuned,” he tweeted.

How is Disney+ a disaster?

DeMayo didn’t expand what he meant about Disney+ being a disaster, but as I covered, it’s known the X-Men ’97 viewership ratings were really bad.

Likewise, the viewership for a majority of the other Marvel and MCU shows haven’t been good as well.

The same applies for Lucasfilm and Star Wars. Recently saw The Acolyte air with abysmal viewership ratings.

Disney CEO Bob Iger also confirmed a $4 billion loss for streaming.

Currently impacting all of Hollywood is that the studios spent billions on streaming to try to match Netflix, but the gamble didn’t pay off. Paramount was recently sold. Warner Bros. Discovery is said to be in the gutter and could be sold off. I’ve also heard rumors Disney could be sold to Apple at some point.
