Following it learned Darren Aronofsky wanted Joaquin Phoenix for his Batman movie, now Darren Aronofsky says he wouldn’t mind tackling Superman while promoting his latest movie mother!.
“I mean, you know, Superman would always be interesting.” Aronofsky told CinePop.
Zack Snyder and David S. Goyer recently rebooted Superman with Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman, in which Darren Aronofsky says he won’t be actually doing a Superman movie because it sounds like he would want to do an original take on the character.
“But they’re already deep into reinventing him,” Aronofsky said. “So that’s not going to happen for a long time.”
Darron Aronfsky actually previously stated he wanted to take on Superman when Man of Steel was developed and noted he was a fan of Zack Snyder’s movie.
“Superman’s one of the holy grails. It’s Superman. It’s the best superhero.Batman is great, of course, but it’s Superman. He’s the same level. That possibility was great,” Darren Aronfsky told MTV. :I thought Zack [Snyder] was a great choice, and I loved his Watchmen movie. I thought it was great. I thought that as a fan of the comic, you couldn’t hope for a better interpretation. I liked the orthodoxy of it.”
The next Superman movie starring Henry Cavill is currently in development, with it said the script is complete for the Man of Steel 2 movie. No director or release date has been announced as of yet.
Regarding Darren Aronofsky’s Batman movie, it would have been a much different take on the Dark Knight. Darren Aronofsky had Frank Miller on board as co-writer with details including there would no longer be the billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne, but something more akin to a homeless anti-hero Batman. Also gone was Alfred, replaced by the African-American, “Big Al,” as well as the Batmobile would have been a suped-up Lincoln. “Batman” would be born when Bruce Wayne would punch the heads of various criminals leaving a “TW” imprint from his deceased father’s ring, Thomas Wayne.
Just imagine how different Darren Aronofsky’s Superman would have been.
Henry Cavill next stars as Superman this November in Justice League.
