Daisy Ridley Star Wars Movie Loses Writer Steven Knight

Nobody saw this coming, but the Daisy Ridley Star Wars movie that is supposedly happening has now lost writer Steven Knight.

Recall how recent rumors said the flick was being put on hold and that Knight was considering bailing on the project.

I also pointed out that recent interviews featuring Knight in the trades talking about his Peaky Blinders movie did not mention Star Wars (of course not).

What is also interesting is that the news follows Disney recently confirming Bob Iger is leaving in 2026. It’s wondered if head of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy will be going with him (and everything else).

Regarding Steven Knight exiting the Star Wars movie, Variety reports Steven Knight has departed the Star Wars movie and that Lucasfilm is actively talking with new writers to take on the story. The story is said to follow Daisy Ridley as Rey who is starting a new Jedi Academy.

According to the site, the delay means production on the Star Wars movie won’t happen until well into 2025 at the least.

Puck News, who first reported on the exit of Knight, also says the delay means the flick won’t be ready for that December 2026 release date.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still supposed to direct who never directed a big feature film before. She’s known for directing a couple of episodes of the Ms. Marvel series on Disney+.

Presently, only Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian & Grogu movie is in active development and has a May 2026 release date. Disney has two more dates for untitled Star Wars films for December 2026 and December 2027. It was thought the Dec. 2026 date was for the Daisy Ridley movie, but again, that’s not happening.
