Zack Snyder is making the press rounds as of late promoting his involvment in the Doritos Superbowl contest where the director has been talking about Batman Vs. Superman and Justice League. Snyder previously commented on the Robin rumors in the film, and now again comments on recent statements by Steven Spielberg that said the superhero movie genre might go the way of the Western, which sees Snyder take a jab at Marvel and Ant-Man.
Speaking with The Daily Beast, Snyder insinuates that the Marvel movies have no staying power compared to the DC characters.
âIt goes to the mythological nature of the movies that weâre making,â Snyder said in regards to Spielbergâs sentiments. âI feel like [Spielbergâs] right. But I feel like Batman and Superman are transcendent of superhero movies in a way, because theyâre Batman and Superman. Theyâre not just, like, the flavor of the week Ant-Manânot to be mean, but whatever it is. What is the next Blank-Man?âÂ
Snyder says both Batman and Superman are of mythological proportions and again takes another jab at Marvel.
âItâs a tricky process, setting up the DC universe, or Justice League,â Snyder said. âThe credit goes to [Batman Begins director] Chris Nolan because he set the die for the DC Universe in a great way that I tried to emulate. I look at it as more being mythological than, say, bubblegum. And I think that thatâs appropriate for Batman and Superman because theyâre the most mythological of our superheroes.â
The interview also sees Zack Snyder confront another rumor that Batman Vs. Superman will feature more of Batman (which is a no-brainer if you think about it as itâs the first Ben Affleck Batman appearance).
âOnly in that because itâs a different Batman than the Batman that was in the Chris Nolan movies, so we have a little bit more explaining to doâand you justhad a whole Superman movie,â he smiled. âBut I think only in that way, because you need to understand where Batman is with everything. And thatâs more toward the beginning, but it evens back out as it goes on.â
âBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justiceâ has a March 25, 2016 release starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves. Justice League is to follow directed by Zack Snyder as well.
Synopsis:
