Suicide Squad, despite all the negative reviews, now has the best opening ever for the month of August.

The film has netted an estimated $135.1 million for its opening weekend, which passes that of Marvel and James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy back in 2014 that made $94.3 million.

Here are the estimated totals for the weekend:

Domestic: $135,105,000
Foreign:    $132,000,000
Total:         $267,105,000

Some other positives for Suicide Squad include:

Will Smith’s biggest domestic debut.

The number pushes WB past the billon dollar mark for 2016, marking the 16th year in a row.

Pushed total weekend tickets sales to a never-before seen $230M in August.

Makes Suicide Squad the third-highest opener of the year (behind Captain America: Civil War‘s $179.1M, BvS‘ $166 million and above Finding Dory‘s $135.06 million).

Largest August Thursday preview total of $20.5 million.

Largest August opening day with $65.2 million (includes Thursday previews).

Second highest domestic gross of the Summer.

WB’s fifth-highest domestic opening off all-time (behind Harry Potter – Deathly Hallows 2‘s $169.1 million, Batman Vs. Superman‘s $166 million in March, Dark Knight Rises‘ $160.88 million, and The Dark Knight‘s $158.4 million).

Second-best debut worldwide for a DC property after Batman Vs. Superman‘s $422.5 million.

Seventh best for any superhero movie.

Suicide Squad beats the $264.7 million global launch of 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool and opened in six less foreign markets.

As previously noted, the big question is whether or not Suicide Squad has any staying power.

“Suicide Squad” is now in theaters directed by David Ayer starring Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as the Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, and Scott Eastwood in an unknown role.

Synopsis:

It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Supervillains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
