Suicide Squad Concept Art References Darkseid & Batman Vs. Superman

A new batch of Suicide Squad concept art happens to rerference Darkseid, the big bad of the DC Universe.

As we recently posted, artist Christian Laurenz Scheurer posted concept art for the Suicide Squad movie where images include Parademons, mention of a Boom Tube and some sort of god.

The Parademons were featured in the Batman Vs. Superman Nightmare scene; a Boom Tube is a means of interstellar travel opened by a Mother Box (and used by Darkseid and his minions), and as a Redditor notes, the “god” in the Suicide Squad concept art looks similar to Batman Vs. Superman‘s Steppenwolf who is thought to be the villain of the Justice League movie and is a lieutenant of Darkseid.

It’s possible this concept art could actually be from an earlier draft of the Suicide Squad film. We can guess that Enchantress may have opened a Boom Tube portal to Apokolips at the end of Suicide Squad which saw Steppenwolf arrive on Earth (see the “He Has Arrived” art below). Now that would have been a pretty cool lead in to the Justice League movie, and may also explain the poor ending to SS as they had to come up with another idea for whatever reason. We even see the artist has “omitted” the actual name of the god.

“Suicide Squad” is directed by David Ayer starring Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as the Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, and Scott Eastwood in an unknown role.

Synopsis:

It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Supervillains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

Who is the most powerful DC hero?
