Star Wars: The Force Awakens Spot
The Force is not strong with this weekend’s Disney D23 Expo.
It’s learned Disney will not be showing off any new footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens at Disney’s Anaheim convention.
“It is true, we are showing no footage, behind the scenes or otherwise,” director J.J. Abrams told EW. “In the fall, there’ll be a trailer.”
Abrams didn’t reveal a new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer at last month’s Comic-Con, but did show off behind-the-scenes footage.
A couple of seconds of new footage did debut in the recent Star Wars: The Force Awakens international spot (watch above).
Moving forward it will be interesting to see how Disney and Abrams market the movie. For example, Avengers 2 saw probably 75% or more of its footage online prior to the movie’s release (which I felt spoiled a lot of it); possibly Abrams will be going the opposite route for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and won’t be previewing much, other than what’s contained in a couple of trailers.
It is thought Marvel Studios will be releasing footage at the D23 Expo from Captain America: Civil War and possibly Spider-Man.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has a December 18, 2015 release directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer.
Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.
