The nefarious secret group of powerful white dudes might be coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Doctor Strange 2.
A Doctor Strange set visit with Benedict Cumberbatch reveals the actor has done his homework and is knowledgeable about the Marvel Comics which saw various Marvel characters band together forming the evil cabal.
“I’m excited to see where the Illuminati and whatever else might happen, how that works, and where it ends up,” Benedict Cumberbatch told IGN when asked about more from the Sorcerer Supreme.
The article notes Marvel’s Illuminati is not yet confirmed for the MCU, but it does mention a Doctor Strange 2 is almost a certainty, as the first movie is planting seeds for the future of the MCU.
It’s also said that Benedict Cumberbatch hasn’t confirmed a Doctor Strange 2 or the Illuminati with Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige, so we’ll have to take this as purely speculation from Cumberbatch.
Interestingly enough, The Avengers: Age Of Ultron featured an Illuminati Easter Egg.
It will also be interesting to see how the MCU portrays the Illuminati as (if you believe) in real life they are said to be secret society of uber-powerful racist white men who believe themselves to be gods and everybody else cattle ripe for the slaughter. The Illuminati are said to be responsible for a whole history of events ranging from killing Abel to faking the moon landings to killing Kennedy to creating the AIDS virus to destroying the Twin Towers and loads more all in order to achieve their new world order. It’s even said Star Wars, Star Trek and 2001: A Space Odyssey mirror their agenda and beliefs. Obviously they are a bunch of bad guys, so how Marvel Comics super heroes would play into the equation remains to be seen.
“Doctor Strange” has a November 4, 2016 release directed by Scott Derrickson also starring Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Tilda Swinton, Mads Mikkelsen, Michael Stuhlbarg, Benjamin Bratt and Scott Adkins.
