Update #2: Star Wars Concert with John Williams footage now online.
Disney just held their Star Wars panel at Comic-Con, which saw appearances by J.J. Abrams and LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy with Chris Hardwick serving as moderator.
Some of the topics included:
• Abrams mentioned they are using practical effects, with a creature from the movie appearing on stage that takes five people to control (see pic below). It’s Baba Joe that was featured in the Star Wars Omaze video.
• Star Wars: Rogue One will start shooting in three weeks.
• Abrams didn’t reveal a new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, but did show off a behind-the-scenes video which featured Simon Pegg on set in costume as Pegg will cameo for the film as some kind of alien; Princess Leia was also shown in her costume looking like a military comander; Stormtroopers were shown getting blown up on the lava planet; Daisy Ridley in the gunner’s seat of the Millennium Falcon.
• John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and Oscar Isaac appeared on stage following the footage, and then later the Dark Side joins the cast with Adam Driver, Domnhall Gleeson and Gwendoline Christie.
• Domnhall Gleeson’s is playing General Hux General Hux who is in charge of the primary First Order base — named Starkiller Base (Starkiller a nod to Luke Skywalker’s original name).
• Carrie Fisher enters the stage, with Mark Hamill shortly after. Peter Mayhew was also spotted sitting with the crowd. Hamill says: “I’ve been a fan since I caught the black and white King Kong as a child. And I think the fans understand that I’m one of them. Without the fan’s we’re nothing.”
• Harrison Ford is introduced and says: “I hate to tell you guys I took a Star Wars trivia contest, and I flunked. I can’t remember what Han Solo was smuggling. Was it jewels? No, it was spices!”
• Ford also says: “I never thought it would come back to bless me instead of haunt me. I was very gratified when I read the script, because I read something that I thought was really remarkable. Well written, with some intriguing developments. So I was delighted to be involved.”
• Twitter has new Star Wars emojis.
• The panel is just about over when it’s announced everybody is invited to live Star Wars Concert outside the venue. The hand out special Star Wars lanyards afterwards to guarantee entry. Star Wars: The Force Awakens Stormtroppers are there to lead the procession.
• New Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer will be released in the Fall.
