Captain Marvel Was Originally A Part Of The Avengers 2 Ending

[page_title]

As we previously heard before, Captain Marvel was in an earlier script of The Avengers: Age Of Ultron movie, but Marvel decided to cut the character because they didn’t want to introduce Carol Danvers without a back story.

Now while attending The Avengers 2 Blu-Ray event yesterday, Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige and producer Jeremy Latcham expand upon Captain Marvel in Age Of Ultron (via SlashFilm).

Here’s the blurb:

Feige:

You may be alluding to rumor about Captain Marvel showing up in [Avengers: Age Of Ultron]. At one point, it might have been one draft. And we shot a plate; the thought was we maybe we would have her in there, but the truth is it didn’t seem appropriate to have this new person in a new costume literally come out of nowhere at the end of this story. It would have been a disservice to – what by the time this movie was coming out – people already knew  was coming anyway, and a way we could really do it justice.

Latcham:

In really early development there was a notion there would be like a ton of new people. And then it was like ‘we haven’t really introduced them, we don’t know where they are going to come from’ and Josh [Whedon] did not love that idea. It was an early discussion, and that became ‘just be Captain Marvel,’ and then that felt weird. Like to just have one new person…

Feige:

And also what the subtext was, what does Cap say? ‘They’re not the 27 Yankees.’ Well if Captain Marvel is there, what are we saying about her? The notion that they need to be, certainly Wanda and Vision, and to a lesser extent Falcon and Rhodey, need to learn what it means to be a team, even if the most dysfunctional team in the history of teams.

Feige and Latcham also discussed:

Spider-Man in the MCU

Infinity War and the Infinity Gauntlet

A new team of Avengers for Marvel’s Phase 4

Movies referencing Marvel TV

“Captain Marvel” has a November 2, 2018 release.
