Christopher Nolan Thinks Black Panther Will Be Up For Oscars

Christopher Nolan had some mighty big words to say about Black Panther at Sunday’s Oscars.

Deadline caught up with the director, whose recent Dunkirk movie was nominated eight times and took home three Academy Awards, where Nolan remarked about what was going to win next year, and predicted Black Panther would be up for Best Picture in 2019.

The article notes if Black Panther does get nominated for Best Picture that it would be the first comic book movie to do so. It’s further noted that the reason the Academy went to ten nominees is because of Nolan’s The Dark Knight getting excluded for Best Picture back in 2009 (Best Picture Oscar went to Slumdog Millionaire, and Heath Ledger won posthumously for Best Actor In A Supporting Role for Dark Knight).

It’s also said a top Disney executive has stated they will be campaigning to get Black Panther nominated for the Oscars next year including Best Picture.

Black Panther has been huge among fans and at the box office as it currently has a whopping worldwide gross of over $909 million.

Chadwick Boseman returns as Black Panther on April 27th for Avengers: Infinity War.
