Captain America 4: Has Kevin Feige Run Out Of Ideas?

Rumors surround Captain America 4 that the Anthony Mackie version of Cap will be benched, which sounds similar to the The First Avenger movie starring Chris Evans.

The rumor comes from CanWeGetSomeToast on Twitter who offers possible insights into the plot.

“‘Where is Captain America in the MCU?’ The answer to that question can be found in #CaptainAmericaBraveNewWorld,” states the account.

The account continues, “To put it simply, he’s been benched. President Ross thinks Sam’s time as “Captain America” is better suited for publicity, while Sam KNOWS he’s meant to be in the field. And that is just the tip of the iceberg to their conflict…”

Fans have pointed out that the plot sounds similar to Captain America: The First Avenger where U.S. Senator Brandt has Steve Rogers tour the world in a colorful goofy costume as “Captain America” but then Cap gets involved in the action and the war.

Harrison Ford is playing President Ross in the movie, and while there is a different president in Secret Invasion, the series teased President Ritson would serve only one term (to go along with a certain president who also recently served one term).

Kevin Feige rehashing used storylines?

CanWeGetSomeToast took notice of the comparisons not only to The First Avenger, but Secret Invasion (Samuel L. Jackson was benched) and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

“The ‘it’s been done/it’s a recycled storyline’ comments from this ONE bit of info are so weird lmao. I know none of y’all watched Secret Invasion, but Thunderbolt Ross isn’t even President yet!! Sam wasn’t ALWAYS benched,” replied the account.

“‘It’s the same as First Avenger’ Right, because vigilantes/heroes and their relationship with the government will be at an all time high once the guy who brought the Sokovia Accords to the Avengers becomes President,” the account shot back. “He’ll be thrilled about a non-super powered Captain America.”

“‘This already happened in TFATWS’ TFATWS was about Sam accepting the shield AND embracing the role of ‘Captain America.’ He wasn’t even Cap until the last episode! #CaptainAmericaBraveNewWorld will display Sam confidently being a hero as Cap, whether it’s to the government’s liking or not…”

Captain America: Brave New World has a July 26, 2024 release date directed by Julius Onah who previously described the film as a paranoid thriller. Also starring includes Carl Lumbly, Danny Ramirez and Tim Blake Nelson. Recent set pics have shown WWE Superstar Seth Rollins and Mackie’s costume.
