Amid all the delays and rumors, the good news is that Blade is still happening as Mahershala Ali says they will be back filming soon.
Not only has the release date been delayed, but rumors offer Blade has been having major problems including that Ali wasnât even the star of the movie and has been relegated to the fourth lead.
While talking to EW.com, the two-time Oscar winner offered a promising update.
âWeâre working on it. Thatâs the best I could tell you,â the actor said. âIâm really encouraged with the direction of the project. I think weâll be back at it relatively soon.â

Sincerely encouraged
The flick has gone through numerous writers and directors, with Logan writer Michael Green now writing the flick.
âIâm sincerely encouraged in terms of where things are at and whoâs on board and whoâs leading the way as far as the writing of the script and the directing and all that,â Ali continued. âSo thatâs the extent of what I can tell you.â
The recent report by Variety also said the story at one point morphed into a narrative led by women filled with life lessons, and the sites also says that now the film will have a budget of less than $100 million.
The movie is said to also star Aaron Pierre, Delroy Lindo, and Mia Goth.
Blade also saw its release date movie from Feb. 14, 2025 to Nov. 7, 2025. Yann Demange is directing who recently confirmed itâs getting an R rating.
âThey gave me the R, which is so important,â Demange said, adding, âI come out of this [short film] wanting to be more open, more vulnerable and bring a more personal aspect to my work.â
Demange continued, âBut for Blade, we are going to have fun because Mahershala is such a deep actor. Iâm excited to show a kind of ruthlessness, a roughness he has, that allows him to walk the earth in a particular way. I love him for that. Heâs got a dignity and integrity, but there is a ferocity there that he usually keeps under the surface. I want to unleash that and put it on the screen.â
