Prime Video’s Blade Runner 2099, the limited series follow-up to Blade Runner 2049, is set to debut in 2026.
The update came from Laura Lancaster, Head of US SVOD TV Development and Series – Co-Productions at Amazon MGM Studios, in an internal memo announcing executive promotions, as confirmed by Deadline.
Michelle Yeoh Leads the Cast
Michelle Yeoh will star in Blade Runner 2099. While her role is being kept under wraps, it’s likely she’ll play a Blade Runner, similar to Harrison Ford’s Deckard in the original Blade Runner (1982) and Ryan Gosling’s K in Blade Runner 2049. Another possibility is that Yeoh portrays a replicant who turns investigator — a twist on the franchise’s usual perspective.
The series is set 50 years after the events of the 2017 film, placing the story in the year 2099. Like its predecessors, the show is expected to explore the line between humans and replicants, with Yeoh’s character uncovering unsettling truths during her investigation.
The cast also includes Hunter Schafer, Tom Burke, Lewis Gribben, Wil Coban, and Hugo Hamlet.

Franchise Background
Blade Runner 2099 continues the legacy that began with Ridley Scott’s 1982 film, based on Philip K. Dick’s 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Denis Villeneuve directed the sequel Blade Runner 2049, which starred Gosling and Ford.
The franchise has been defined by its mix of sci-fi noir, philosophical questions about identity, and futuristic dystopian visuals. The Prime Video series is set to carry that tradition into a new era.
Production and Creative Team
The series is currently filming, with Silka Luisa (Strange Angel, Halo, Shining Girls) serving as showrunner. Ridley Scott is also attached as an executive producer.
Yeoh recently received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She comes to Blade Runner 2099 after The Brothers Sun was canceled on Netflix, and she remains active in the Star Trek franchise, starring in Section 31 and previously in Star Trek: Discovery. She will also appear in James Cameron’s upcoming Avatar sequels as Dr. Karina Mogue.
Release Window
While no specific date has been announced, Blade Runner 2099 is locked for a 2026 debut exclusively on Prime Video.
