Ben Affleck Wants To Play Batman If It’s Good Enough

For the last year or so, there has been talk of Ben Affleck leaving the Batman role.

Ben Affleck was even once attached to write and direct a new Batman movie, but decided to opt out, which is paving the way for the new Matt Reeves Batman movie.

In a new interview with Daily Sabah, Ben Affleck actually says he still wants to direct a Batman movie and is interested in the role:

For me, it’s interesting, and I always evaluate this stuff on the merit of the material. I want to direct a “Batman” movie, and I never got a script that I was happy with, so they are starting over and writing another script. And right now, I think a lot of different possibilities I think for the way the DC Universe could go, and I will just follow my interests in pursing that. And I know that I love working with this group of people, and it was a real joy for me to make this movie.

As we see, Affleck states he evaluates how good the material is and also states he never got a script that he was happy with regarding the solo Batman movie.

It’s probably safe to say that Affleck also wasn’t happy with both Batman vs. Superman and Justice League, all of which may have to do with Ben Affleck being on the fence about playing Batman.

Bear in mind Ben Affleck is no dummy; he’s received Oscars for Best Movie and Writer, so it isn’t like Ben Affleck is going to stick around playing Batman if he thinks it will hurt his career or if he thinks whatever WB is doing with the character isn’t good enough.

Following the disappointment of Justice League, it has been said the DCEU is getting an overhaul next month. Perhaps then is when we’ll find out if Ben Affleck is still on board, and it may also tell if Affleck likes the Matt Reeves Batman script.

Personally, I hope Ben Affleck sticks around as Batman. I think Affleck is right (though he doesn’t specifically state it), the DCEU needs a lot better writing.
