A lot of fans were hoping for news about the Avengers Project video game at the recent Game Awards, but instead, a new Marvel Ultimate Alliance game was announced.
So fans took to social media to question the creative director and writer behind the game, Shaun Escayg, who offers a small update.
“Thanks everyone for all of your interest in The Avengers Project. We’re hard at work on this very ambitious game, and are excited to share more when the time is right,” Escayg posted on Twitter along with a hashtag for “reassemble.”
This January will actually be two years since the first info and teaser trailer was released for The Avengers Project, which sees Marvel partnering with Square Enix. The official details include that Marvel Entertainment and Square Enix have signed a “multi-year, multi-game partnership deal, leading with the reveal of The Avengers project. This newly established partnership pairs the creative minds at Marvel and Square Enix for one of the most powerful alliances in interactive entertainment.”
The announcement from 2017 continued, “A game based on beloved Marvel heroes, The Avengers project is being crafted by Crystal Dynamics – longtime developers of the award winning Tomb Raider series – in collaboration with lauded Deus Ex developer Eidos-Montréal. The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come.”
The announcement also said more details on The Avengers project and other games will be announced in 2018, but nothing else has been officially released. As noted above, more info will be released when the “time is right.”
A rumor surfaced a while back that the Avengers Project could be a 3rd person game similar to Destiny, but again it isn’t official.
