Following me having revealed The Avengers 4 title to be “End Game,” it seems likely that Marvel Studios is going to change it, which I’m actually on the fence about if the current rumor holds true.
It is currently hitting Reddit that the title might actually be The Avengers: Annihilation, which for obvious reasons if you have been a reader of the site for the past ten years could either come off as bit of a disappointment or something to be really excited about.
And interestingly enough, it’s the same title that got me into a feud with former Marvel Studios Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn on Twitter and Facebook.
Regarding why I am on the fence about The Avengers: Annihilation title is because it may mean Marvel Studios won’t be adapting the stellar Marvel Comics Annihilation event from 2005-6 that brought Nova to the forefront of Marvel Comics.
Of course, it may actually mean that Nova may be introduced into the MCU in Avengers 4, so there is the other side of the fence.
Another thing that has me worried is that James Gunn previously teased Quasar for Guardians of the Galaxy 3, but it could have been the lesbian alien replacement that fans really disliked in the comics, and not Wendell Vaughn, the protector of the Universe.
To add to that, Disney is getting the Fox Studios Marvel characters back next year, with some of them a part of the Annihilation and Abnett and Lanning Marvel Cosmic comics, so if Avengers: Annihilation is the title, it seems like a missed opportunity down the road.
Of course, there is also the fact that the MCU doesn’t adapt the comics to begin with, so they could always do something with Annihilus attacking the MCU using Nova and / or different heroes, with a different title.
“Avengers: Annihilation” may also have nothing to do with the Marvel Cosmic heroes to begin with, and could simply refer to the original Avengers characters and actors leaving the MCU and Thanos’ annihilation of half the universe.
It has been said that the Marvel Studios Phase 4 plans are going cosmic in a big way, and I did previously tease Marvel’s true end game for Avengers 4 is what comes next, so perhaps Avengers: Annihilation fits?
What do you guys think about “Avengers: Annihilation” as the possible Avengers 4 title?
