As the MCU sets its sights on Captain America: Brave New World next February, Anthony Mackie has been keeping the rivalry alive with his Avengers co-star Tom Holland.
Recently, Mackie referenced their ongoing banter on Instagram, where he shared some reflections about his experience at San Diego Comic-Con. He also previously threw in a playful jab at the Spider-Man actor while sharing details about the upcoming film.
What did Anthony Mackie say about Tom Holland?
After attending this year’s San Diego Comic-Con last month, Anthony Mackie took to Instagram on Tuesday to share photos of himself with the cast of Captain America: Brave New World and offered a glimpse of his new Captain America look featured in the D23 trailer.
In his post, Mackie playfully acknowledged Tom Holland, writing: “I had to take time and let the scope of what happened sink in. You were right @tomholland2013, it is different when you go with your own movie!”
Mackie didn’t stop there. Last week on The Official Marvel Podcast, he took another playful shot at Holland.
“Well, he’s Cap. Finally,” Mackie laughed. “This is way better than any of Tom Holland’s movies. And, I have Harrison Ford!”
The comment adds fuel to their ongoing, light-hearted feud, which began at the 2018 Comic-Con when Mackie teased Holland about not having seen Spider-Man: Homecoming, leading to Holland joking about Mackie not having his own solo Falcon movie at the time.
A New Mission and a New Falcon
Mackie also teased Captain America: Brave New World, hinting at what fans can expect from Sam Wilson’s journey since The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
“Now we see him running missions on his own and trying to figure out where he fits into the whole world,” Mackie explained, while also praising his co-star Danny Ramirez, who returns as the new Falcon, Joaquin Torres. “The stuff that he’s doing with his character and what he brings. The flavor, the beauty, the joy he brings to that character. I feel like it brings a whole new energy to the Marvel Universe,” he added.
Red Hulk smash
Regarding Harrison Ford’s debut as President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, a role previously held by the late William Hurt, Ford, now stepping into the MCU as the Red Hulk, expressed his excitement about joining the Marvel Universe.
“This is a character that’s based on a lot of history developed with Bill, who played the character previously,” Ford previously explained. “But now, I am Thaddeus, and I’m delighted. And I’m proud to become a member of the Marvel universe. I’ve been watching fantastic actors — some of which are here tonight — have a really good time working in the Marvel universe, and I wanted a piece of the action… I’m very proud to be in this film. I think it has turned out to be fantastic.”
Captain America: Brave New World gets released on Feb. 14, 2024.
