Against all odds, it was recently learned that ABC has renewed Marvelâs Agents of SHIELD for a Season 6, with its Season 5 finale airing this Friday.
However, now itâs learned itâs looking likely the series will not having anything to do with The Avengers: Infinity War movies or Captain Marvel.
While itâs possible the characters could simply disappear at the end of Fridayâs episode, it has become known Season 6 wonât be airing until well after Captain Marvel and The Avengers 4.
ABC announced that Agents of SHIELD Season 6 will be airing Summer 2019, which follows the February 2019 debut of Captain Marvel featuring the return of both Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, and it follows the The Avengers 4 in May, the conclusion of the Infinity War storyline.
The news of no movie crossover shouldnât be at all surprising as Agents of SHIELD is created by Marvel TV, which is a different company at Disney than Marvel Studios. Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, parted ways with Marvel CEO/Chairman Ike Pelmutter who is in control of Marvel TV, Comics, licensing and merchandise (also explains why no Daredevil in Infinity War). Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has also gone on record stating there is a disconnect between the Marvel movie and TV divisions as well. Â
So we see Agents of SHIELD essentially is placed on hiatus until the Infinity War storyline in the MCU is complete.Â
While no crossover may disappoint some fans, at least the Agents of SHIELD series can do its own thing and isnât tied down to having to follow the MCU.Â
Agents of SHIELD Season 6 will consist of 13 episodes.
