The movie adaptation of the true story surrounding the popular Gran Turismo video games from Sony Playstation is moving forward and will star David Harbour who is known for Stranger Things and Marvel’s Black Widow and upcoming Thunderbolts.
THR offers the first details with the word Gran Turimno will be directed by Neill Blomkamp who is known for District 9 and Elysium.
The script is written by Jason Hall (American Sniper) and Zach Baylin (King Richard).
Update: Orlando Bloom and Archie Madekwe have joined the cast.
David Harbour will play the retired driver who teaches the teen to drive.
Orlando Bloom will play a hungry marketing exec who is selling the sport of motor racing … and just may believe in its art, too.
Archie Madekwe is playing the teen.
Gran Turismo movie is based on a true story
The movie is based on a true story and is described as the “ultimate wish-fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional race car driver.”
“As one of PlayStation’s longest standing and most beloved franchises, it’s great to be partnering with Columbia Pictures again to bring Gran Turismo to life in an exciting way,” said PlayStation Productions producer Asad Qizilbash. “We can’t wait for audiences to see Neill’s vision of this inspiring true story of gamer turned professional race car driver.”
Gran Turismo has an Aug. 11, 2023 release date.
Gran Turismo was originally released in 1997 and is a series of racing simulator games that has spawned over 10 spin-offs and sequels.
