Following the news of Rosario Dawson getting cast as Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian Season 2, it’s rumored a spinoff series is in development for the character.
The rumor may be legit as it comes from the latest Heat Vision update from The Hollywood Reporter which offers:
True news: Rosario Dawson is joining The Mandalorian as Jedi Ahsoka Tano. Slash Film’s Peter Sciretta has the scoop. But here’s the big question: Could this be a backdoor pilot for an Ahsoka series? There are rumors …
It does make sense for Disney to go with an Ahsoka Tano series as the character is really popular who has been a part of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels animated series.
Rosario Dawson has also been a long time fan-favorite choice to play Ahsoka Tano as well, so we see Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are really coming through for the fans.
Filoni actually co-created Ahsoka Tano along with George Lucas, and Filoni is rumored to be taking over Star Wars with Favreau, so we see it all adds up.
Presently, other than Rosario Dawson first appearing as Jedi Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian Season 2, not much is known about her involvement in the Disney Plus series, but what I find particularly interesting is that recall Mando doesn’t know anything about The Force (he didn’t realize Baby Yoda was using The Force), so we can also assume Mando doesn’t know much, if anything, about the Jedi. Obviously, with Ahsoka appearing in Season 2, it tells us The Force and the Jedi will become a bigger factor. To boot, the Season 1 finale featured Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) sporting the Dark Saber, so The Mandalorian looks to be introducing the Jedi, lightsabers and more of The Force, in addition to possibly revealing who and what is Baby Yoda.
The Mandalorian Season 2 gets released October on Disney Plus.
