A batch of early reviews from the Venice Film Festival has hit Rotten Tomatoes for the Joaquin Phoenix Joker movie which will put a happy face on fans of DC.
With 23 reviews accounted for to date, Joker has a current Rotten Tomatoes score of an 86%.
Though not a part of the DCEU, Joker is considered standalone, the 86% marks another win for DC, which follows Shazam! (91%) and Wonder Woman (93%), with Aquaman also coming in favorably with a positive 65%.
Update: RT score is now at 88% with 34 reviews.
The early box office projections for Joker are just as good as it could bring in anywhere from $60-70 million or more, which may even beat Aquaman‘s opening of $67.87 million.
Joker is the next DC hit
The final Joker trailer and poster was just released, which can be watched below.
Todd Phillips has already said if the flick is a success that he would consider doing a sequel with Joaquin Phoenix. We can also guess that if Joker is a big success that it could lead to other “Elseworlds” type movies that are not a part of the DCEU continuity. One wild rumor has it that Ryan Gosling is up to play Lex Luthor in a solo Elseworlds film.
The film gets released worldwide on October 4.
Joker trailer, poster and info:
Director Todd Phillips “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.
Three-time Oscar nominee Phoenix (“The Master,” “Walk the Line,” “Gladiator”) stars in the titular role alongside Oscar winner Robert De Niro (“Raging Bull,” “The Godfather: Part II”) as Franklin. The film also stars Zazie Beetz (“Deadpool 2”), Frances Conroy (TV’s “American Horror Story,” Hulu’s “Castle Rock”), Marc Maron (TV’s “Maron,” “GLOW”), Bill Camp (“Red Sparrow,” “Molly’s Game”), Glenn Fleshler (TV’s “Billions,” “Barry”), Shea Whigham (“First Man,” “Kong: Skull Island”), Brett Cullen (“42,” Netflix’s “Narcos”), Douglas Hodge (“Red Sparrow,” TV’s “Penny Dreadful”) and Josh Pais (upcoming “Motherless Brooklyn,” “Going in Style”).
