Possible good news, as following the director f-bombing fans, now it is learned that Terminator: Dark Fate will be adding more of the Gabriel Luna Terminator.
Speaking with EW, director Tim Miller makes it known that Terminator: Dark Fate will be undergoing reshoots which will add more of Luna, who is known for playing Ghost Rider in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD and will be returning for the Ghost Rider HULU series.
Miller also raved about Luna’s “fantastic” performance, which the director says will only expand with upcoming reshoots. “This Terminator is a lot more human than a regular Terminator has been, which makes sense because computers are human, they understand us more every day,” says Miller.
Mille also offered details about the plot as Linda Hamilton’s Sarah Connor created a new future at the end of Terminator 2 that is actually worse.
“There’s this new future because of what Sarah did at the end of Terminator 2, and it’s worse than ever,” reveals Miller. “And that gives us the opportunity for these new characters. Gabriel comes from something that is not Skynet, but it’s like Skynet. And Mackenzie comes from something that Kyle Reese and the Resistance did. I tried to keep Gabriel a bit grounded while still interesting; I feel his new weapons and abilities are right for our times but not so ridiculous that it just turns into a visual effects superfest. And the same with Mackenzie’s character — I really liked her origin story. We did an early writer’s room and Joe Abercrombie came up with her as this super soldier from the future, but it comes at a cost to be one of these people. They’re the first people to die, they’re the shock troops who protect the rest of humanity, and her readiness to sacrifice is a really interesting way to come at a character.”
Will fans show up for Terminator: Dark Fate?
Regarding Miller’s comments about f-bombing fans, he apparently doesn’t like the fact that fans still are attached to the original Terminator movies that feature male actors and characters as the stars. Typical of most Hollywood movies these days, Terminator: Dark Fate looks to continue the trend where male characters are looked down upon (or replaced completely), while the female characters are placed on a pedestal (i.e. Disney Star Wars, Captain Marvel, Toy Story 4).
It’s shame that Miller went off on the fans, as I was actually looking forward to this flick. All they had to to was add the original Terminator music in one of the trailers, and I think, it might have hooked a lot of fans in. Now with Miller insulting the fans, it remains to see how this flick will do. But Miller says he doesn’t give a f—, so there ya go.
