It’s reported that Twilight star Robert Pattinson will play the younger Bruce Wayne and new Dark Knight for Matt Reeves in The Batman.
While it is reported the deal isn’t done just yet, it is said the 33-year-old Robert Pattinson is the top choice to play the character, with the deal expected to close shortly.
It’s further reported Matt Reeves will start filming on The Batman this Summer, and that Robert Pattinson was cast even though Reeves is still tweaking the script (via Variety).
Update: Deadline offers the Robert Pattison deal isn’t done just yet and that he is on the short list along with X-Men actor Nicholas Hoult, but that Pattison is currently holding the edge.
Update #2: THR says Pattison is the top contender and that it is not clear if an offer is on the table. They further state it is unclear who is on Matt Reeves’ shortlist to play the new Batman, but that in addition to Pattison, names that have been floating around include Armie Hammer, Nicholas Hoult and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
In addition to the Twilight movies, Robert Pattinson is known for a plethora of good roles in smaller indie films including Good Time and High Life. The actor isn’t without a Batman connection, of sorts, as he is also set to star in Christopher Nolan’s next untitled movie that is due out next year; Nolan directed Christian Bale in The Dark Knight Trilogy.
Robert Pattison replaces outgoing Dark Knight Ben Affleck who left the role reportedly over not being able to get the script right. It has been said the Matt Reeves version is a younger version of the Affleck Batman.
The Batman has a June 25, 2021 release date with Matt Reeves writing and directing, and producing along with his Planet of the Apes collaborator Dylan Clark.
