Not really a surprise, but Gwyneth Paltrow says she is done with Marvel movies following The Avengers: Endgame.
“I mean, I’m a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point,” Paltrow told Variety. “I feel very lucky that I did it, because I actually got talked into it. I was friend with [Iron Man director] Jon Favreau. It was such a wonderful experience making the first Iron Man and then to watch how important it has become to fans.”
Gwyneth Paltrow did say she would be up for returning in a cameo.
“I feel honored to be a part of something that people are so passionate about,” she said. “Of course, if they said, ‘Can you come back for a day?,’ I will always be there if they need me.”
Per Paltrow’s words above, it seems that she will be going out in style, as it is speculated she will be wearing the Rescue armor (watch and listen closely to the first Endgame teaser) in her last appearance this April.
In addition to Gwyneth Paltrow, it is speculated Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner and Scarlett Johansson may be done, too. Johansson is supposed to star in a Black Widow prequel movie, so if she returns for Marvel movies set in the present day MCU remains to be seen. Evans is also rumored to be directing some of the Marvel Studios Disney Plus streaming episodes.
The Avengers: Endgame has an April 26, 2019 release directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War, the universe is in ruins due to the efforts of the Mad Titan, Thanos. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers must assemble once more in order to undo Thanos’ actions and restore order to the universe once and for all, no matter what consequences may be in store.
