Following their return in The Avengers: Infinity War post-credit scene, both Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders will be back for Spider-Man: Far From Home, the sequel to last year’s film that rebooted the Wall Crawler under Marvel Studios starring Tom Holland.
Samuel L. Jackson is also set to appear in Captain Marvel in a significant role prior to the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home. Captain Marvel sees his character, Nick Fury, set in the 1990’s with Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers and fellow SHIELD agent Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson; Marvel will be using de-aging technology to reduce Jackson and Gregg’s appearance by 25 years.
The Avengers: Infinity War post-credit scene featured both Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders’ characters turning to dust as a result of Thanos destroying half the universe, but prior to meeting their maker, Nick Fury managed to send out a distress call to Captain Marvel. In-between the release of Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home is the release of The Avengers 4, which we can guess somehow brings the characters back to life.
Spider-Man: Far From Home, which is currently filming in London, sees Peter Parker embarking on a global adventure and has been described as grander in scale and funnier than Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The film has a July 5, 2019 release directed by Jon Watts also starring Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, with Jake Gyllenhaal said to play the villain Mysterio, and Michael Keaton back as Vulture.
Captain Marvel has a March 8, 2019 release; The Avengers 4 hits May 3, 2019.
Spider-Man: Far From Home also will be the first movie to launch Marvel Studios’ Phase 4 plans (whatever they may be).
Tom Holland also recently announced a Spider-Man: Far From Home contest where lucky fans can win s set visit with him in London.
