Infinity War: Captain America Alternate Plans Revealed

Infinity War: Alternate Captain America Scene Revealed

The Avengers: Infinity War is now available digitally, with directors Joe and Anthony Russo recently offering that an earlier draft of the script was “insane,” and now they reveal their alternate and original plans for Captain America.

The Russo brothers originally planned for Captain America to show up well into the third act, toward the end of the film, which the Russo brothers decided to change.

“Basically everyone at Marvel, other than Joe and I, were mad at us because we were bringing him into the movie so late [laughs],” Anthony Russo told Entertainment Tonight. “We thought it was the right spot to do it, but after a while we gave in to everybody’s ‘we need more Cap.'”

Thor Wakanda Entrance

Joe Russo reveals Cap originally had the entrance of Thor.

“He had Thor’s heroic entrance into the Wakanda battle,” Joe Russo teased. “That was originally Cap. Our thinking was, that he was on the run, nobody could find him, so we thought it would be this really compelling way to use the character, especially because we were trying to thin the ranks out so we could track everyone, and then we realized we had a really could spot to bring him in earlier in Scotland to save Vision and Wanda. So we started moving around heroic moments for characters.”

Captain America

Anthony Russo continues with an explanation how their original vision for Captain America would have fit with The Avengers: Infinity War and Captain America: Civil War

“But that choice about bringing Cap in that was sort of at the heart of what we… The premise of the movie for us was always that because of what happened in Captain America: Civil War, because Cap and Tony had the following out, because the Avengers are divided, this is why they lose to Thanos, because they are not divided, they aren’t together,” Anthony Russo said. “So playing with this idea that it is hard for Tony and Cap to get back together on the same team, and having Cap sort of be late to the party because they are forced to live underground in hiding from the government, that was always the basic premise of the movie for us.”

Joe Russo also previously discussed whether or not the Hulk was afraid of Thanos, why the Black Order was weaker in the movie than in the comics, Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet being damaged, and James Gunn talked if the MCU influenced his Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

The Avengers: Infinity War is now available digitally and becomes available on Blu-Ray on August 14.
