Alien Franchise Uncertain At Disney Says Ridley Scott

Following the rumor that Ridley Scott’s sequel to Alien: Covenant has seen its pre-production stopped, now Ridley Scott confirms the Alien franchise has an uncertain future now that Disney is purchasing Fox Studios.

“It looks to me that the Fox deal is certainly going to go ahead with Disney, and I’ve been with Fox for a number years now,” Ridley Scott told Digital Spy. “I’m hoping I’ll still probably be there so whether or not they go ahead with such a dark subject, being Disney, as aliens remains to be seen. I think they should because I think, when people have a hard and fast franchise which has ongoing interest, it’s crazy not to do something with it.”

As Ridley Scott notes, the Alien movies are dark and rated-R, while the Disney movies are not, but Ridley Scott still has hope that Disney will be able to do mature films.

“[If] they find that they’re so successful with that that they want to cross the line and do something a little darker, and if they do that, do they want to do that under Disney or do they want to do that under the Fox banner? I think there’s a business plan afoot definitely,” Ridley Scott said.

Regarding what is next for the Alien franchise remains to be seen as the Disney and Fox deal is still about 12-18 months away from going through, but Ridley Scott does confirm his original plan of doing a sequel to Alien: Covenant.

“I’m in tune with where Covenant 2 would go. We already know what we’d do with that,” Ridley Scott said.

It’s previously been said Alien: Covenant 2 will drop the alien xenomorphs to further explore the David artificial intelligence android story.
