Thor: Ragnarok Tracking Around $90-100 Million

Thor: Ragnarok Box Office

It’s being estimated that Marvel Studios Thor: Ragnarok will have an opening box office weekend of around $90-$100 million.

The number is better than the first Thor movie ($65.7 million) and depending on the final numbers, either slightly or much better than Thor: The Dark World ($85.7 million).

I think if Thor: Ragnarok opens around the same as Thor: The Dark World it could be looked at as a disappointment and potential failure as the movie brings in both the Hulk and even Doctor Strange, in addition to being a very different take on the franchise with its comedic and goofy approach.

That said, word-of-mouth will probably be a large factor for Thor: Ragnarok‘s success and whether or not movie audiences accept all the comedy in the movie, which seems a pretty obvious reaction to the success James Gunn had with the Guardians of the Galaxy films.

I happen to like my Marvel COSMIC on the realistic and serious side, so I’m not as pumped for Thor: Ragnarok as I could be. Marvel Studios also seems to be really butchering the Planet Hulk comic book storyline in the movie (huge Hulk fan, here), so that is another factor playing into me potentially not digging it.

I am still keeping an open mind.

Thor: Raganarok has a November 3, 2017 release directed by Taika Waititi starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk/Banner, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Sam Neill in an unknown role.

Thor’s world is about to explode in Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok. His devious brother, Loki, has taken over Asgard, the powerful Hela has emerged to steal the throne for herself and Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe. To escape captivity and save his home from imminent destruction, Thor must first win a deadly alien contest by defeating his former ally and fellow Avengers… The Incredible Hulk!
