Diamond released their comic book sales charts and information for the month of August where DC Comics comes out on top with Dark Knights: Metal #1 followed by two issues of Batman.

Diamond Announces Top Products For August 2017

 

(BALTIMORE, MD) — (September 8, 2017) — The Justice League learns of the threat posed by the Dark Multiverse and Batman makes an unexpected ally in Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Dark Nights: Metal #1, the first chapter of DC Entertainment’s 2017 event and the best-selling comic book of August 2017 according to information provided by Diamond Comic Distributors, the world’s largest distributor of comics, graphic novels, and pop culture merchandise.

Marvel Comics was August’s top publisher with a 35.01% dollar share and a 39.52% unit share. DC Entertainment was second in August with a 28.18% dollar share and a 31.09% unit share. In third was Image Comics with a 10.06% dollar share and a 9.23% unit share. In fourth was IDW Publishing with a 4.81% dollar share and a 3.69% unit share, followed by Dark Horse Comics with a 3.16% dollar share and a 2.18% unit share.

DC Entertainment had three titles among the top ten. In addition to Dark Nights: Metal, Tom King and Mikel Janin’s Batman #28, the fourth chapter of “The War of Jokes and Riddles,” ranked #2, and King and Janin’s Batman #29, the fifth chapter of the storyline, ranked #3. Marvel Comics had seven titles in the top ten, led by Nick Spencer, and David Marquez’s Secret Empire #10, the final of Marvel’s summer event, at #4; followed by Tom Taylor and Ramon Rosanas’ Generations: All-New Wolverine/Wolverine #1 at #5; Spencer and Daniel Acuna’s Secret Empire #8 at #6; Spencer and Leinil Francis Yu’s Secret Empire #9 at #7; Jason Aaron and Mahmud Asrar’s Generations: The Mighty Thor/The Unworthy Thor #1 at #8; Aaron and Salvador Larroca’s Star Wars #34 at #9; and Aaron and Larroca’s Star Wars #35 at #10. Among the premier publishers, Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard’s The Walking Dead #170 was Image Comics’ top book for August at #11. P. Craig Russell and Bo Hampton’s Neil Gaiman’s American Gods: Shadows #6 was Dark Horse Comics’ top book #105. Finally, IDW Publishing’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #73 was their top book at #158.

Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang’s Paper Girls Volume 3 from Image Comics was August’s best-selling graphic novel. In total, Image had five titles in the top ten including Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw’s God Country at #3, Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips’ Kill or Be Killed Volume 2 at #4, Mark Millar and Greg Capullo’s Reborn at #7, and Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez’s Old Guard Book 1: Opening Fire at #9. DC Entertainment had three titles in the top ten: Tom King, David Finch, and Danny Miki’s Batman Volume 3: I Am Bane at #2; Greg Rucka and Liam Sharp’s Wonder Woman Volume 3: The Truth at #5; and Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason’s Superman Volume 3: Multiplicity at #8. Marvel Comics had two titles among the top ten: Marc Guggenheim and Ardian Syaf’s X-Men Gold Volume 1: Back to Basics at #6 and Cullen Bunn, Jorge Molina, and Matteo Buffagni’s X-Men Blue Volume 1: Strangest at #10.

Hellboy: An Assortment of Horrors, a new prose anthology featuring stories of Mike Mignola’s Hellboy and published by Dark Horse Comics, was August’s best-selling book.  Also charting for Dark Horse in August, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Big Bads and Monsters Adult Coloring Book ranked #9.  IDW Publishing’s Cinegeek ranked #3. BOOM! Studios’ Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Adult Coloring Book ranked #5. Gemstone Publishing’s The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide Volume 47 ranked #8 in its second month of release.

Based on the best-selling game for the Nintendo Wii U and the Nintendo Switch, Good Smile’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: Link Nendoroid DX was August’s best-selling toy product. DC Collectibles had two products in the top ten: the Batman Black & White Statue by Norm Breyfogle at #2 and the DC Cover Girls: Zatanna Statue at #5. Diamond Select Toys had three products among the top ten: the Marvel Select: Lady Deadpool Action Figure at #4, the Marvel Premium Collection: Thanos Statue at #6, and the Marvel Gallery: Luke Cage (Netflix) PVC Figure at #10.

Thor and the gods of Asgard join WizKids/NECA’s HeroClix miniatures game with the Marvel HeroClix: The Mighty Thor Booster Brick, August’s best-selling gaming product. From the premier publishers, IDW Games’ Machi Koro Card Game ranked #6.
