Leave it to James Cameron to fix the Terminator franchise as what follows sounds better than anything that has come since Terminator 2: Judgement Day!
Both James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger have confirmed a new Terminator movie is in the works, as the U.S. film rights return to Cameron in 2019.
Terminator fan site, The Arnold Fans, caught up with James Cameron who revealed a possible plot of the next Terminator movie that would visit Arnold Schwarzenegger’s origin:
“You got to ask yourself, ‘Why did they make these characters look and sound like Arnold? There has to be a reason. So yeah, it has flashed through my mind that there has to have been a prototype. There has to have been a guy who’s DNA was harvested from – that they grew the organic outter layer that they grew the Terminator from…and that presumibly was a real person at some point. Now, the question is, did that person have some sort of meaning to Skynet on WHY they chose that one (Arnold)? Or was it like a whole rack of Terminators and the one that happened to be the Arnold model just happened to be closest to the door going out to the time displacement center and all the others looked different? I’ve asked myself these questions but it’s never been resolved…so stay tuned! We’re talking pretty seriously now about doing some new Terminator films or possibly a trilogy and you’ll just have to see what surfaces in those.”
James Cameron brings up a good question in that who the heck is Arnold Schwarzenegger? Obviously some of us simply assumed the Terminator franchise stuck with Arnold Schwarzenegger simply because he is “Arnorld,” but Cameron offers there is more to it than that!
Now I’m excited for more Terminator movies!
Update: Arnold Schwarzenegger confirms Terminator films in March and then comes a new Conan movie.
James Cameron directed the first two Terminator movies, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day will also be released in 3D on August 25th.
