Sounds Like Different Adam Warlock for Guardians of the Galaxy 3

Fans of Adam Warlock may not like the following news.

Assuming if and when Adam Warlock appears in the MCU or Guardians of the Galaxy 3, director James Gunn makes it sound as if the character won’t be similar to his comic book counterpart, as Gunn tells THR when asked about using the character:

“I always do what’s best for the movie. A lot of times, that means taking things from the source material and other times it’s changing things,” said Gunn. “I’ve changed a lot already from the comics with the Guardians. Groot’s personality in the first Guardians, which people loved, was nothing like his personality in the comics. He didn’t have that puppy dog innocence that we love about Groot. I don’t restraint myself in any way when it comes to using stuff from the comics or not using it.”

James Gunn introduced Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 with the post-credit scene reveal of the cocoon. Obviously it remains to be seen just how much Gunn would change Adam Warlock to suit his needs, but I’ve always wondered why even bother using the character if you are going to change things? Why not just call the character “Joe Shmo” as obviously the general audience wouldn’t know any different?

I’ve generally liked Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies but I would pick on a few things: namely the Nova Corps, Ronan, Star-Lord in the first movie, and Drax and Mantis in part two. I do realize the MCU needs to be different than the comic books to a degree, but hopefully Gunn doesn’t change Adam Warlock into something comic fans won’t recognize. If not for the Marvel COSMIC fans supporting the comics, there would never have been a Guardians of the Galaxy movie or franchise. The MCU has already removed Adam Warlock from being involved with Thanos and the Infinity War movies, which is a disappointment, but a majority of the Marvel movies have been good, so I’m willing to wait things out. Just a thought.

The article also reveals James Gunn has picked out his music for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, with it thought to be a mix of 80s and 90s hits. Gunn offers a clue:

“Vol. 1 was a playlist of Meredith Quill’s songs, where as Vol. 2 contained Yondu’s songs,” he said.
