Filming gets underway on the Avatar sequels September 25th.

Deadline reports producer Jon Landau announced the start date at CineEurope in Barcelona as filming will begin on the new Avatar movies with motion-capture work.

It’s further said the Avatar sequels are standalone flicks but together form “an epic saga.”

While there has been some delay in getting the Avatar sequels off the ground, Landau assured the crowd: Cameron “has done a couple of sequels before in his career and I would argue that those sequels have lived up to, if not exceeded, the original movies.”

Landua continued with mention James Cameron has been working on the scripts for the movies: “that’s what Jim has been working on for the last several years… Finally, we have the four scripts for the Avatar films ready.”

The first Avatar movie scored the best box office off all time with a $2.7 billion worldwide gross.

Avatar 2 is due on on on December 18, 2020; Avatar 3 on December 17, 2021; Avatar 4 on December 20, 2024, and Avatar 5 on December 19, 2025.
