With Thor: Ragnarok, Marvel seems to be attempting to capitalize on the humor found in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
Will it work?
We’ll have to wait and see, but the new Thor: Ragnarok trailer is Marvel’s most viewed trailer ever and said to be one of the best.
I happen to like my Marvel Cosmic stories rather on the serious side (Annihilation), and while only from viewing the trailer, it does seem that Thor: Ragnarok will not be anything like the epic “Planet Hulk” storyline from the comics (other than the gladiator arena), which is a huge disappointment to say the least.
It seems I’m not the only one who isn’t big on the goofiness found in Thor: Ragnarok as a fan went out and recut a “Dark Edition” Thor: Ragnarok trailer. Watch below.
Save the comedy for Ant-Man, guys!
Thor: Raganarok has a November 3, 2017 release directed by Taika Waititi starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk/Banner, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge, Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Sam Neill in an unknown role.
In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk! “Thor: Ragnarok” thunders into U.S. theaters on November 3, 2017.
