Thanks to comic book writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, and Marvel Comics Editor Bill Rosemann, Disney has a new billion dollar Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.
With the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie being a massive success, and the sequel looking to be even bigger, it’s a no-brainer that Disney and Marvel Studios will continue with a Guardians of the Galaxy 3, but whether or not director James Gunn is involved is still unknown.
While talking about his latest movie, of which he wrote and produced with The Belko Experiment, Gunn was asked by Complex about the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy, with Gunn confirming Guardians of the Galaxy 3, but Gunn did state he is unsure if he will return.
There will be a Guardians 3, that’s for sure. We’re trying to figure it out. I’m trying to figure out what I want to do really, that’s all it is. I got to figure out where I want to be, what I want to spend the next three years of my life doing. You know, I’m going to make another big movie; is it the Guardians or something else? I’m just going to figure it out over the next couple of weeks.
If you follow James Gunn on any of his social networks, you know Gunn is attached to the Guardians of the Galaxy and emotionally invested in the characters. It would be hard to imagine Guardians of the Galaxy 3 without him.
James Gunn is also on board The Avengers: Infinity War as a producer as the Guardians of the Galaxy are set to appear in the film.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 hits May 5th.
