“FRAGGLE ROCK” CONVERTED TO HD FOR A NEW GENERATION OF FANS
Digitally Remastered Library of the Beloved Series to Be Available on HBO Later This Year and Offered to International Buyers for the First Time at the Upcoming MIPJunior and MIPCOM 2016 Markets
Hollywood, CA (October 10, 2016): The Jim Henson Company announced today that the globally renowned television series, Fraggle Rock, which has been digitally remastered for fans and a whole new generation, will return at the end of this year on HBO, which was the original home of the series when it premiered in 1983. The new HD version of Fraggle Rock will be offered to international buyers for the first time at MIPJunior and MIPCOM this year.
From creative genius Jim Henson, Fraggle Rock stars a cast of puppet creatures called Fraggles, quirky cave-dwellers who live in an underground world alongside their industrious green neighbors, the Doozers, and a family of enormous Gorgs. The series follows the fun adventures of the furry subterranean creatures and features a unique mix of music from all genres including folk, blues, gospel, country and rock, all while embracing themes of friendship, tolerance, diversity, and caring for the planet.
With 96 episodes, 100 original songs and millions of fans around the world, Fraggle Rock has been seen in over 98 countries and has secured several prestigious awards, including three Cable ACE Awards and five International Emmy Awards.
Fraggle Rock has been remastered to HD by Los Angeles-based post production and film restoration studio illuminate, using their SmartRez Image Translation™ technology that uses proprietary algorithms to provide a completely new way to create HD images so rich that they look like they originated in HD.
“HBO was the initial home for the U.S. premiere of Fraggle Rock in 1983, and it’s fitting that the network premieres this beautifully remastered version of the series,” commented Richard Goldsmith, EVP, Global Distribution, The Jim Henson Company. “In remastering the series, illuminate has created a contemporary look for the series with meticulous attention paid to every detail–sharpening the images, cleaning up the contrast, increasing the vibrancy of the colors and re-formatting for wide-screen–all under the careful supervision of Brian Henson. Fans will delight in seeing this newly formatted series, and we’ll engage a whole new audience who will love meeting the Fraggles, Gorgs and Doozers.”
