Michael Fassbender To Produce and Star in Assassin’s Creed Movie

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:2170:]]The star of X-Men: First Class, Michael Fassbender, will next take on a video game role with Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed.

The insanely popular Assassin’s Creed video game franchise will see Fassbender as the starring role as well as co-produce for the film adaptation.

Deadline has it that Fassbender and Conor McCaughan will develop the movie under their DMC Film studio. Initially, it was supposed to be spearheaded by Sony, but Ubisoft now desires to retain creative control; however, the movie may still be distributed by Sony as well as possibly financed. It’s noted that Ubisoft does not want something similar to Disney’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which bombed at the box office.

The video game sees bartender Desmond Miles forced to access the memories of his descendants, members of the Secret Order of Hashashin (Assassins), by the modern day equivalent of the Knights Templar. They are seeking information on the ancient artifacts, the Pieces of Eden, believed to be able to stave off the coming end of the world.
