Man of Steel has had a successful weekend, flying into theaters with an estimated $125 million opening and almost $200 million worldwide.

Previous to the movie’s opening it was rumored Snyder and Goyer would be doing a Man of Steel sequel with Justice League to follow.

Our own DC Entertainment source told us it looked as if Snyder and Goyer had got their way with Man of Steel 2 looking like a 2015 release with Justice League a year later in 2016.

However, now a new report surfaces that Man of Steel 2 could be seen as early as 2014, with Justice League a year following.

In the Wall Street Journal‘s Box Office report, they noted:

Warner is already in development on a sequel to “Man of Steel” and is expected to fast track that for release as soon as 2014, said knowledgeable people close to the studio.

In addition, it has long been developing a “Justice League” team-up movie featuring characters such as the Flash and Wonder Woman that could come out as soon as 2015.

If Man of Steel 2 does, indeed, get a 2014 release, Snyder and company would have to begin production ASAP. It’s currently thought that the DC shared movie universe has been planned by Warners for quite a while as both Cavill and Goyer are signed on for three-picture deals, so if they begin immediately it could be a possibility. In addition, WB was said to want Justice League first to compete with Marvel Studios with a 2015 release date. So, if anything, the Man of Steel sequel would be the only movie to get moved up, which has been noted to be “fast-tracked.”

However, more than likely the 2015 release date for Man of Steel 2 seems more realistic.

Still, new images of Henry Cavill training at the gym did surface, suggesting the actor was back at it becoming Superman once again.
