Friday The 13th TV Series Described As True Detective and Twin Peaks On Acid

Recently it became known that a new Friday The 13th TV series is in development at The CW, and now new details have become known.

The new series was previously described as: The ongoing quest of a detective’s search for his missing brother that is somehow tied to Jason Vorhees, a long thought dead serial killer who has now returned to wreak havoc in the new Crystal Lake.

Legion Of Leia caught up with Steve Mitchell,  writer on the new Friday 13th series, who offered the following tidbits:

• The feel of the show is described as a “cross between the first season of True Detective and Twin Peaks on acid.”

• They didn’t want to do a weekly show about a guy wielding a machete chasing scantily clad women.

• They reinvented Crystal Lake as more of a thriving town similar to a Silicon Valley filled with young rich people who have a lot of time on their hands, and at the same time there are old people who grew up there (and remember Jason).

• The new Crystal Lake is said to be similar to the town from Jaws or Amityville 20 years later.

• The cop discovers his lost brother was looking into Jason: “Is this Jason or is this a copycat? Is it possible that Jason has been around all these years? Is Jason a monster? Is he real? Is he a serial killer? And really exploring who and what Jason is, is part of the whole thrill of the show.”

• The movies will be acknowledged in that the movies were made following the events of Jason; however, the young people just know Jason from the movies, while the older people there know what happened.

• Mitchell added: “The underlying thematic of the whole thing is that Jason is a monster in this town. He openly wears a mask. But everybody in this town wears a mask. Underneath those is the monster.”
