David Goyer’s Da Vinci’s Demons Premiers Tonight; 4 Ways Leonardo Is Similar To Batman

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:6856:]]David Goyer‘s new series, Da Vinci’s Demons, premiers tonight at 10pm ET on Starz.

Starz sent over the following info to get us excited for the big premiere as David Goyer also imagined Da Vinci with some striking similarities to Batman.

Da Vinci’s Demons follows the “untold” story of the world’s greatest genius during his turbulent youth in Renaissance Florence. Brilliant and passionate, the twenty-five year old Leonardo da Vinci (played by Tom Riley) is an artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer and idealist. The eight-part series is created and penned by David S. Goyer (Batman BeginsThe Dark KnightMan of Steel), who also directed the first two episodes.

Similarities with Batman:

1. They both had traumatic experiences in caves

As a child Bruce Wayne fell into a cave-like well and was swarmed by bats, which left a lasting effect on him. Da Vinci’s writings also detail a horrific incident which happened to him in a cave when he was a child.

2.  They were both inventors

Bruce Wayne was the innovative mind of Gotham city, providing inventions to military contracts and for his own personal use, such as the Batmobile, Batwing, and Batsub. Da Vinci was a military engineer, inventing the machine gun and armored tank as well as the helicopter, bicycle and parachute.

3. They both had issues with their fathers

Bruce Wayne lost his father at a young age and was raised by the family butler, Alfred. Da Vinci was born a b-stard son to a peasant mother and a father that had only disdain for him.

4. They both liked wings

Bob Kane, creator of the Batman comic series, originally based Batman’s cape on Da Vinci’s design of glider wings. Da Vinci studied bats and birds to design a detailed sketch of a human-propelled glider.

Da Vinci’s Demons premieres on Friday, April 12th at 10pm ET/PT, exclusively on STARZ.
