Star Wars: Rogue One Passes A Billion At Box Office

Last weekend saw Star Wars: Rogue One pass the magic billion dollar number at the box office.

To date, Star Wars: Rogue One has amassed a whopping $1,014,296,289.

While not the best Star Wars movie by any means, the billion dollar box office number of Star Wars: Rogue One goes to show just how strong the Star Wars brand is for Disney, which could arguably put out a Jar Jar Binks movie and still hit a billion (and we’d all be first in line to see it).

Star Wars: Rogue One‘s U.S. haul is at $514,338,899, with a foreign gross of $499,957,390.

Star Wars: Rogue One also ranks as the:

• #2 action heroine flick
• #1 prequel movie
• #2 Star Wars movie
• #1 movie of the past year
• #2 best gross for a Monday
• #2 best for Christmas day
• #2 opening weekend in December
• #3 opening holiday weekend

“Star Wars: Rogue One” is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, with Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker. Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur and Simon Emanuel are producing, with John Knoll and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers.

Synopsis:

From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.
