When Arrow returns for Season 4 in the Fall, itâs sounding likely the series will be somewhat different than the darker three seasons that preceded it.
To go along with that possible brighter costume, now showrunner Marc Guggenheim says Arrow Season 4 will be lighter in tone â and we are guessing more âsuperheroicâ with something more in line with The Flash.
âIt will take a lighter tone. Thatâs pretty much the only thing I say without spoiling it,â Guggenheim told io9.
Guggenheim continues with mention Season 3 was kicked off by the death of Sara Lance, aka Black Canary, that really set the tone for Season 4, which while they donât regret doing, we do see they undid as Caity Lotz returns as White Canary in the spinoff DCâs Legends Of Tomorrow.
âWeâve been working for about a month now in the writersâ room, talking about season 4, and I think that one thing we all collectively understood was season 3 beginning with Saraâs death, because itâs the death of a major character on the show, it set a tone for the remainder of the season,â Guggenheim offered. âAnd Iâm not the least bit apologetic for that tone. I happen to like dark and I like the fact that Arrow is a pretty dark show particularly for a network show. That said, every year you want to mix things up and there was sort of a collective desire on all of our parts to try to inject a little bit more lightness into the show, a little bit more humor. Itâs not going to radically change. The showâs still going to be the show but in terms of tone weâre coming off a very very hard season for all of our characters. We wanted to try to mix it up a little bit.â
Regarding DCâs Legends Of Tomorrow, Guggenheim offers it will be even bigger than Arrow and The Flash.
âItâs definitely not just the team show. I think the show is going to be bigger, louder, more ambitious even than Flash and Arrow. I think Flash raised the bar on Arrow in terms of adding superheroes and weâre looking to now have the show raise the bar on Flash so you feel like the shows are getting bigger and bigger. One thing we sort of always tell you is that with Flash weâre really trying to provide a feature film every week. With this show weâre trying to provide a summer blockbuster every week.â
âThe Flashâ and âArrowâ return this Fall; âDCâs Legends Of Tomorrowâ is due mid-season 2016.
